Valentine's Day Around the World

Sean MurphyComment

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and our team here at Rouvalis is gearing up for a very busy few weeks ahead! You can now shop our Valentine's Day collection, and be sure to check back here for featured arrangements!

We know how we celebrate Valentine's Day here in the United States, but how about other countries? According to Education First's blog (link below), here's how countries around the world celebrate the day of love.

SOUTH KOREA AND JAPAN

It’s the men who are pampered in this part of the world on Valentine’s when women buy chocolates for their male partners, family members and coworkers as a token of affection and appreciation. But don’t worry ladies, the favor is returned a month later. On March 14, known as White Day, men reciprocate with cake, candy and flowers.

THE UK

In the UK, couples get seriously romantic on Valentine’s Day. Lovebirds all over the Isles exchange gifts of flowers, chocolates and jewelry. In the evening, couples typically enjoy a nice dinner on the town or opt for a candle-lit spread at home. Either way, love is in the air.

FINLAND

For anyone flying solo, Finland is the place to be. You don’t have to worry about feeling left out of the festivities because in this country it’s all about celebrating with your friends. The day is even called ‘Friend’s Day’ in Finnish, not Valentine’s. The official flower is the pink rose, but mates are happy to receive gifts, cards or candy, too.

PERU

Thanks to countrywide Carnaval celebrations, most Peruvians are on holiday on February 14, which means they have extra time to plan their loved-up itinerary. Instead of exchanging roses, many opt for orchids – a flower native to the country. They even hold mass weddings to accommodate all the couples saying “I do” on the most romantic day of the year.

BRAZIL

Brazilians skip the February 14 celebrations and instead commemorate Saint Anthony, the patron saint of marriage and matchmaking, on June 12.

This Week's Specials

Sean MurphyComment

Our special bouquets and arrangements we available this week have a very spring-like feel. Fresh flowers such as forget-me-nots, mini green hydrangea, creme de la creme roses, and a stunning cymbidium blossom come together in these arrangements for a perfect desk or bedside table size arrangement. It's sure to brighten up any room - which we could all use with all this dreary weather we've been having in Boston. Be sure to come in and pick one up before they're gone!

New Winter Collection

Sean MurphyComment

With the milder temperatures in Boston this week, we are hopeful that spring will be here sooner rather than later. All of our designs in the shop reflect a brighter, more colorful palette. Below are some of our new floral arrangements from our seasonal collection, available for delivery or pick up in store!

Soft playful tones of blue, peach and green bring about thoughts of the springtime thaw and picnics in a meadow. Fragrant hyacinth, shimmer roses, cream astrantia, chartreuse cymbium. hydrangea and sword ferns are collected in a rounded glass vase.

Cool, crisp and refreshing blues and purples pop against bitter greens. Fragrant hyacinth, anemones, veronica and hydrangea are accented with textural thistle and soft ferns, gathered together into a petite envelope vase.

Crisp bright greens are the perfect setting for these rich purple hues. Fresh spring shades of anemones, hyacinth, clematis, veronica, shimmer roses and stunning vanda orchid blossoms are curated beside hydranges, soft fens and fun thistle, all together in a large rounded glass vase.

Specials This Week

Sean MurphyComment

Our specials this week are different than we've had in week's past - monochromatic blooms, rather than a mix of complimenting colors. We have Valentine's Day on the mind and these arrangements reflect a touch of the holiday, with their romantic tones. They also match the dark and stormy weather we've been having in Boston recently with rich deep purples of varying shades. All of the flowers work well together to create a striking flower arrangement that is sure to be the perfect addition to your home or office! Stop by the shop and pick one up for you or that special someone.

Valentines Day Designing

Sean MurphyComment

It's that time of year again for the Rouvalis team to creatively design Valentine's Day arrangements using  the highest quality flowers from around the world. This years product line brainstorming began just after New Year's, taking into consideration availability from farms, color schemes and overall the signature Rouvalis style.

After weeks of ideas and designs the flowers arrived and designers quickly made work of them bringing the product line into fruition this past weekend. Starting February 1st we will be blogging and discussing each arrangement daily with the thought process behind each arrangement.

Don't forget to check back in on February 1st!

Winter Weddings

Sean MurphyComment

Our designers just finished the flowers for a small, outdoor winter wedding - we are hoping for some warm temperatures!

The main colors for the fresh flowers were whites, peaches, and greens, which we love for this time of year. Very fresh and seasonal, and the peach adds a soft pop of color.

The beautiful bridal bouquet - including ranunculus, garden roses, freesia, thistle, hydrangea, and eucalyptus.

The boutonnieres and pin-on corsages for the groom and parents of the bride and groom. We tied elements of the bridal bouquet into the groom's boutonniere like the ranunculus and blue thistle.

The best part of the whole wedding - a boutonniere for the couple's dog!

Award Winning Rose.

Sean MurphyComment

The team at Rouvalis would like to congratulate our rose grower Rosaprima on their award wining rose "The Black Pearl". We have been using this grower since 2013 and have had numerous variety's of roses throughout the years including the award winning The Black Pearl a rose we use during Christmas and Valentine's day.

The rose grown exclusively by Rosaprima for the most demanding and creative clientele, The Black Pearl rose defines luxury and elegance at its finest. Characterized by plush, velvety petals, deep merlot hues, and an impressive longevity, the beautiful complexity of this rose is awe-inspiring.

It took almost a decade for the Rosaprima team, alongside rose breeder NIRP International, to develop this unique rose. In 2012, recognizing the potential for The Black Pearl’s elusive shape and color, Rosaprima acquired the worldwide growing and exclusive distribution rights for the variety.

This year, The Black Pearl is recognized internationally for two prestigious awards:

  1. Agriflor 2016 Exhibition, Gold Award Winner
  2. SAF 2016 Outstanding Varieties Competition, Best in Class Winner

Rosaprima is a company with a passion for growing  roses and a firm belief that they are doing is extraordinary work in the flower business. Since being founded in 1995, thier values have remained the same: unequaled craftsmanship, sound business practices, and a belief that roses have an important place in life’s most precious moments.

Orchids

Sean MurphyComment

Orchids typically have a reputation for being a finicky plant to take care of, but they're just the opposite! Only requiring water once every two weeks and indirect sunlight, orchids are an elegant and simple house plant.

It is always nice to have a pop of color in the house, especially after the holiday decorations have come down and rooms can feel bare. Come by the shop or visit "Plants & Orchids" under "Shop" above to see our whole orchid collection! Below is a close-up of a stunning phalaenopsis orchid that we currently have in the shop!
