Royal Wedding: Flowers

Sean MurphyComment

Why did we wake up so early to watch the Royal wedding?! The flowers, of course!! We were blown away by the lush, flowing, natural arches of blooms surrounding the Chapel doors. For the brides bouquet, soft and ethereal astilbe (supposedly) picked by the Prince himself!

Taken from Town & Country Magazinge: As with the various other royal wedding traditions, there is royal precedent for wedding flower arrangements. Meghan's bouquet will adhere to a specific centuries-old custom: every royal wedding bouquet dating back to Queen Victoria's weddingin 1840 contains at least one spring of myrtle.

For Prince William and Kate Middleton's ceremony in 2011, Westminster Abbey was decorated with almost 30,000 flowers, most of which came directly from Windsor Great Park's Valley Gardens in Surrey, the BBC reports. Additionally, six English Field Maple trees and two Hornbeam trees lined the aisle, according to People.Shane Connolly, the floral artistic director for Will and Kate's wedding, revealed they chose white, green, and cream foliage, including azaleas, rhododendron, euphorbias, beech, wisteria, lilac, and blossoms for the wedding,

And the icing on the cake? These gorgeous blooms were collected into cherished bouquets to be donated to a local Hospice. ..."Today we got a very special delivery. Beautiful bouquets made from the #royalwedding flowers which we gave to our patients," reads his Tweet. "A big thank you to Harry and Meghan and florist Philippa Craddock. Our hospice smells and looks gorgeous. Such a lovely gesture."
