Winter Displays
CommentOne of the best parts of our day is getting to create beautiful, eye catching window displays. Over the holidays, our window was filled with poinsettias, Christmas trees, and stunning bright red amaryllis. As we approach the new year, we re-vamped our window with some great winter elements, and it turned out to be one of our favorites!
Have you seen our latest window display? The drifts of pinecones and tall branchy birch makes it feel like a wintery wonderland!
Greens & Whites
CommentNow that Christmas is over and the holiday season is coming to a close, we are focusing on fresh, seasonal arrangements. Our favorite color scheme for this time of year is green and white - wintery evergreens like cedar really fill up arrangements with a bold color and amazing scent! Eucalyptus, a year-round favorite, is also fantastic in arrangements and hand-tied bouquets because of its silvery color and interesting texture. Below are some of our favorite combinations for this time of year!
These two pieces were headed to a client's home - perfect to ring in the New Year!
A beautiful mix of evergreens, silver brunia, white calla lilies, dendrobium orchids, and dogwood branches.
Winter Solstice, one of our most popular seasonal arrangements!

Plant Pick: Winter Terrariums
CommentTerrariums are one of our designer's absolute favorites for any time of year, but they are especially fun around the holidays! You can put almost anything in a terrarium, which means that they make great gifts, since they can be personalized to everyone's tastes! Here are some of our favorites that we have made up this season.
This globe container is perfect for centerpieces this time of year, since they can be seen from all around. Here, we used classic echevaria, moss, ilex berries, gold branches, pinecones, and of course, some fake snow to create a tiny winter wonderland.
This is a great, hanging container, perfect for a special ornament on your tree or in your window! Here, we used some mini echeveria and pinecones, with a touch of red ilex berries to give it the wintery feel.
These special containers were brought in by a customer, but we just love the way that the displays turned out. They really do look like a scene from a forest, complete with woodland creatures! The addition of the string lights make them perfectly seasonal and cheery.
'Tis the Season for Greenery
CommentThis time of year, especially around Boston and in Beacon Hill, cut evergreens are everywhere! We use many different types in our seasonal arrangements, window boxes and display. You'll find greens on lampposts, wreaths, and in swags. But what are the different types we use? Below are our seasonal favorites that you'll find in our work during this time of year.
CEDARS
Western Red: a hardy greenery, the stem on this greenery is a reddish-brown. The leaves lay very flat, which makes this a great choice for a long tablescape or to add another dimension on a wreath or garland.
Cedar Incense: slightly fragrant, these cedars have a draping tendency, making them perfect for garlands and a whispy wreath.
Port Orford: very hardy, perfect for arrangements and garlands. Grown in the Pacific Northwest.

FIRS
Silver Fir: very versatile due to it's silver underside, allowing for a multi-dimensional display! SIlver fir trees are found in the Pacific Northwest, from the southeast of Alaska, through British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon, all the way to Northwest California!
Noble Fir: Noble firs have a much darker green color, which adds a rich tone to any arrangement. These trees are also from the Pacific Northwest, more specifically in northern California and Oregon.

Plant Pick: Christmas Cactus
CommentThe Christmas Cactus plant is extremely popular this time of year for gift giving, hostess gifts, and holiday decor. For good reason, as well - they are very easy to care for and will show beautiful flowers around the holidays. Simply paired on its own or as part of a bright tablescape as shown below, a Christmas Cactus is a great choice for your holiday season!
In terms of care, Christmas Cacti will do best in bright filtered light. The plant will not withstand direct sun as it can be easily sunburned. If the "joints" between leaves start to turn red, your plant is receiving too much sun.
Since it is part of the cactus family, your plant does not need a lot of water - simply water about half a cup of water once a week. In the fall and spring, every other week is appropriate. These plants will thrive in a humid environment.
Fresh Florals
CommentThe holidays are in full swing here in Beacon Hill! We are loving the red, green, and white color scheme to create a bright and seasonal arrangement for all of our clients. Of course, there are plenty of evergreens such as firs, cedars, and magnolias to be found as well! Be on the lookout for a blog post coming soon about the different types of greens we use!
Our fresh floral picks this week are some beautiful ornithogolum (more commonly known as "Star of Bethlehem") from South America, calla lilies (specifically, the "majestic" variety) also from South America, white astrantia from Holland, and some beautiful fresh magnolia bunches from Florida.
Be sure to come by the shop and see how these wonderful florals come together to create a beautiful arrangement!
